Zak Vyner 'considered' for Rangers transfer as Bristol City boss Nigel Pearson drops exit hint amid contract limbo

Bristol City star Zak Vyner is reportedly on Rangers' transfer radar this summer after entering the final year of his contract.

The 26-year-old impressed last season at the heart of the City defence but now has just 12 months of his contract at Ashton Gate remaining despite the English Championship side offering the key man fresh terms earlier this year. Bristol Live report that the club do not want to see the centre-back leave for nothing at the end of the season and state that the Scottish Premiership side are among the sides "considering" a bid to test Bristol City's resolve before the end of the month.

English Premier League new boys Luton Town and Southampton are also said to be interested in Vyner - who previously spent time in Scotland on loan at Aberdeen back in 2019. Boss Nigel Pearson has hinted players will have to sign new deals or risk being sold. After the win over Millwall, he was asked about any news on Vyner's future. Pearson said: “Not at the moment.

"We’ve talked about it but there’s nothing further to add at the moment. We’d like to extend it and there have been one or two conversations but he’s a player we should be looking to extend.

"Tommy Conway, Sam Bell, they’re all players we need to try and tie down for our own wellbeing. When you lose your exciting prospects, all that work that has gone into developing the players… it’s something we need to protect our assets.

Michael Beale has been facing injury problems at centre-back early in the campaign.
