Rangers transfer news bulletin as Jake Cooper silence broken by Millwall boss while Glen Kamara exit mapped out

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has addressed speculation linking Jake Cooper with a move to Rangers this summer - insisting he is hoping to see the defender pen a contract extension.

The 28-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at the Den as a host of clubs are reportedly keeping tabs on him this summer including the Ibrox side alongside English Championship rivals Leeds United and West Brom in the hunt for the defender. Michael Beale looks to be in the market for a new centre-back this summer to add depth to the heart of his defence with early fitness issues plaguing Ben Davies and Connor Goldson this term.

But speaking to South London Press, Rowett made it clear he hoped to extend the defenders stay at the London club. Asked about Cooper's links with Rangers, he said: “We want Coops to sign a new deal. It has been well-documented that he has got a year left and there has been quite a lot of speculation out there.

“But as far as we’re concerned, our focus is on him signing a new deal. At this moment in time we are still in those discussions and we’re hoping it is something we can conclude.”

In terms of outgoings, Leeds have been urged to take the gamble on Glen Kamara by former Ibrox and Elland Road star Ross McCormack. He told The Daily Mail that the English Championship side would be landing the perfect player for their current system - who has been frozen out of the Gers first-team picture.

McCormack said: "Every single game Glen plays he's at least a 7.5 out of 10, he doesn't give the ball away and he'd give them great stability. Leeds have a great young talent in Archie Gray and he'd benefit from having someone like Glen alongside him.
