Manchester United have already been told timeline to beat Man City to £51m next transfer

Manchester United have been credited with an interest in RB Leipzig's attacking midfielder Dani Olmo, and they could be set to do battle with neighbours Manchester City for his signature.

According to a report by FootballTransfers, United are 'interested' in signing the Spanish international, who has taken EURO 2024 by storm this summer.

Olmo, 26, has scored three goals and registered two assists in the tournament and has played a key role in Spain setting up a European Championship final clash with England in Berlin on Sunday.

The former Dinamo Zagreb star also scored eight goals and registered five assists for Leipzig last term and it is reported that Bayern Munich are also interested in him this summer.

Olmo has long been linked with a move to Man City and has even been touted as a potential replacement for Kevin De Bruyne at the Etihad Stadium, amid reports linking the Belgian international with a move to the Saudi Pro League.

But now United could beat their rivals to his signature, which would prevent them from resolving one of their major transfer priorities. However, both clubs will need to move fast before Leipzig are able to charge astronomical figures for Olmo, who is under contract at the Red Bull Arena until the summer of 2027.

Olmo has a £51million release clause in his contract which expires on Saturday, July 20. The clause had initially been set to expire on Monday, July 15, but the date has been extended because of Spain securing their passage through to Sunday's EURO 2024 final.
