Manuel Ugarte transfer alternative emerges as Manchester United submit '£50.7m offer'

Manchester United have seemingly stepped up their efforts to sign a new midfielder.

United have been credited with an interest in several potential new signings as the summer transfer window rolls on. Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro remain the only new additions to the Reds squad, but there is likely to be more before the deadline arrives on September 2.

Midfield is also an area of the squad that United are looking to strengthen this summer. Paris Saint-Germain star Manuel Ugarte is a name who continues to be linked, but now it seems that United may be looking to sign a different player.

Reports from Spain have claimed that an offer has been made by United to Real Sociedad for Martin Zubimendi. According to El Nacional, the Reds have lodged a bid worth €60million (£50.7million) to sign Zubimendi.

The report claims that Sociedad remain determined to keep Zubimendi at the club despite the offer from United. However, it has been stated that the bid will not be easy for the La Liga club to reject, although the Old Trafford club are yet to receive a response to their offer.

As well as Zubimendi and Ugarte, Benfica's Joao Neves and Monaco's Youssouf Fofana have also been heavily linked with moves to Old Trafford. It remains to be seen how many more signings United will make before the transfer window closes.

United are currently in the United States as part of their pre-season preparations. Saturday night saw the Reds fall to a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, with the Premier League opener against Fulham on August 16
