Dani Olmo to Man City transfer latest amid £50m fee and Barcelona stalling

RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo became one of the most in-demand European football stars this summer after impressing for his national team.

The 26-year-old bagged three goals and two assists for Spain as they deservedly won the European Championships in Germany. Such displays caught the eye of the top teams in Europe but to Manchester City fans, his form did not come as a shock.

Not only have City had a tendency to play Leipzig in the Champions League semi-regularly during Olmo's stint in the Bundesliga, the Blues have also been heavily linked with the midfielder particularly while rumours circulated that Kevin De Bruyne could leave this summer. Pep Guardiola has since put those fears to bed regarding the Belgian's future but what does that mean for the Olmo links?

MEN Sport has rounded up the latest on City's interest in Olmo below.

The Manchester Evening News understands that City had no intention of activating Olmo's release clause before it expired earlier this month. A £50m fee was said to be required for Olmo to join the club but the Blues are understood to be happy with their strength in depth at the top end of the pitch.

The arrival of Savio to the Etihad Stadium appears to be the only likely forward signing this summer considering the likes of Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku, Kevin De Bruyne and Julian Alvarez can play behind Erling Haaland.

If he is not to join City this summer, Barcelona look to be the ones best positioned to make a move. However, they are currently stalling too.
