Former Rangers insider 'can't see Celtic dropping points' as he weighs in on title race and offers Josh Doig transfer verdict

Gary McAllister has admitted he CAN'T see Celtic dropping points as he weighs in on the Premiership title battle.

Brendan Rodgers and Philippe Clement locked horns for the first time in the recent derby last weekend with the Hoops running out 2-1 winners in front of a packed out Parkhead of home supporters after strikes from Paulo Bernardo and Kyogo Furuhashi. The Light Blues grabbed a late goal back through skipper James Tavernier, but they had lost Leon Balogun to a red card before this with the goal coming too late on as the league leaders put a first defeat on the CV of the new Ibrox gaffer since taking over from Michael Beale.

Going into the winter shutdown the points difference between the top two stands at eight, but Rangers have played two games less. The pair will battle it out again later in the season but picking up maximum points in the derby is always viewed as crucial and the former Ibrox man - who was at the club during Steven Gerrard's stint in charge - concedes his old side can't hold onto hopes that the Hoops will drop points and will just need to take care of their own business and see what happens.

Speaking to Boylesports, he said: "Rangers can’t look at Celtic too much. They have to take games as they come and try to win as many of them as possible.

"If Celtic drop points, so be it, but Rangers can’t hold their hopes on that. They have to concentrate on winning games. It’s happened before – plenty of teams have come back from a deficit, but if I’m being truthful, I can’t see Celtic dropping points."

On the transfer front one name on the radar for Rangers is former Hibs full-back Josh Doig. McAllister is a fan and admits he is not surprised to see his old club linked with a move for the Hellas
