Josh Doig to seal Serie A transfer that will net Hibs £550,000 windfall

Sassuolo have reportedly agreed a deal with Hellas Verona for Josh Doig, which will see Hibs cash in on their former starlet.

The Scotland international looked all set for a switch to Marseille after the Ligue 1 outfit had agreed terms and a £4.3million fee with Hellas. Doig was even at the airport waiting to board his flight to the Cote d'Azur to team up with former Rangers midfielder Rino Gattuso at the Stade Velodrome.

However, Hellas had other ideas after Serie A rivals Sassuolo gazumped l'OM with a higher offer. Doig only had eyes for the one-time European champions, but Hellas pulled out of the deal with Marseille, despite Doig initially not being keen on Sassuolo – a move that did not go down well with the French outfit. Things appear to have changed since though, with Gianluca Di Marzio now reporting that a deal has been struck and Doig is on the move, but staying in Italy.

Hellas will bank €6m from the deal, plus a bonus and 10 per cent of any future fee. It's good news for the Easter Road bean counters as well, who will now see their cut of the deal rise given the bigger fee on offer from Sassuolo.

The Hibees are due 27.5 per cent of the profit made by Hellas, which could be in the region of around £550,000. That will be welcome news to Nick Montgomery, who is attempting to add to his squad, although has to move players on to create space before he can recruit new faces.
