Josh Doig to Marseille transfer OFF as Sassuolo up the ante in bid to hijack move for Hellas Verona star
Josh Doig's proposed move to Marseille is OFF.
The former Hibs star was keen on the move to the Cote d'Azur from Hellas Verona. Doig had agreed personal terms with the Ligue 1 giants, who were prepared to pay £4.3million to land the left back. The Hibees are due a 27.5 per cent of any profit the Italian club make when selling the defender. Doig was set to follow in the footsteps of ex-Easter Road favourite Steven Fletcher, club icon Franck Sauzee and Chris Waddle in pulling on the white and blue.
However, Serie A rivals Sassuolo came in with a bigger bid and Hellas' preference is to sell to them, despite Doig, also on the radar of Rangers, informing the club he only wanted to join Marseille. Now reports in France say the deal is dead and the Scot won't be moving to the Stade Velodrome. In theory, the offer from Sassuolo will net Hibs a bigger slice of the pie, but it would require a change of heart from Doig.
