Rangers transfer bulletin as Tashreeq Matthews 'interest' emerges and Josh Doig delay sparks Ibrox opening

Rangers have reportedly shown an interest in IK Sirius playmaker Tashreeq Matthews this month.

Philippe Clement and director of football recruitment Nils Koppen are scouring Europe in a bid to land the top talent that will see the Light Blues close the gap on Celtic when the Scottish Premiership winter break comes to a close - with the 23-year-old said to have caught the eye. The South African attacker netted ten goals and ten assists in 30 appearances in the Allsvenskan last season and Soccer Laduma claim that Rangers are one of three clubs chasing a deal this month.

It is stated that South African giants Kaizer Chiefs are considering an approach while AZ Alkmaar are also said to hold an interest in taking him to the Eredivise. Matthews contract with Swedish minnows Sirius runs until 2026. He joined the club from Varbergs Bois in the summer of 2022 having spent time in Borussia Dortmund's and Utrecht's academies.

With Ridvan Yilmaz being linked with a move away while Borna Barisic's contract ticks down, Josh Doig has been tipped with a move to Ibrox. And while Marseille have emerged as a potential destination for the Hellas Verona star an opening remains for the Ibrox side.

L'Equipe state that the player fits the profile that Rino Gattuso is looking for this month - a versatile player who can play on the entire left side of the defence. However, they have yet to make a formal offer for the Scotland U21 international.
