Josh Doig to Rangers transfer fee 'revealed' as Gennaro Gattuso shows Ibrox chiefs what's needed to land left-back

Rangers have learned how much they will need to pay Hellas Verona if they want to sign Josh Doig, it has been claimed.

The former Hibs left-back has impressed for the Serie A side since his 2022 move to Italy, but now a return home could be on the agenda. Philippe Clement is on the hunt for a full-back with Ridvan Yilmaz seemingly edging towards an exit and Borna Barisic's long-term future uncertain. Doig is mentioned as one of the names who could come into the Belgian's thinking.

Torino are also after him but reports in France and Italy have suggested Marseille - managed by Rangers favourite Gennaro Gattuso - have entered the running. They have reportedly gone as far as submitting a bid and while that won't be enough for Verona to shake hands over a done deal, it does give the Premiership side some insight into what they may need to pay.

It is suggested that the initial offer of €5m (£4.3m) is not enough. But the Ligue 1 side are not far away, and will need to stump up an extra million to get him, meaning Rangers possibly must offer in excess of £5m to get their man according to reports. Hibs will be due a 27.5% cut of any cash.

Former Ibrox star Alan Hutton reckons he'd be a safe bet for the long haul. He said: "He would come back a better player having played in Italy and you'd think defensively, he would be learning week in, week out.

"I think he would do a really good job. It looks like Barisic will be out of contract at the end of the season. Yilmaz was looking like the guy who was going to take over from him but he has been a little bit in and out. But he has had some really good performances the last few games."
