Michael Beale was never the real deal as Rangers manager. The Bromley boy could talk the talk but couldn’t walk the walk. The fact the Rangers board saw him as the natural successor to Giovanni van Bronckhorst was alarming. He had a short spell at Queens Park Rangers but what had he done to justify being Rangers manager? He started well at QPR but then went into freefall. Yes, he might have coached in the academies at Liverpool and Chelsea and been a key component of Steven Gerrard’s backroom team but did that warrant the Rangers job? He was a very lucky man, yet, if you listen to Beale you would think he was up there with Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho. His results and performances certainly didn’t stand up to his claims. Also, when Ross Wilson departed he told everyone he didn’t need a sporting director. He could do the recruitment himself.
