Gillingham Football Club insist they have a “zero tolerance approach to abuse” after being hit with three separate misconduct charges over crowd control.

The Football Association have alleged that the club failed to ensure its spectators and/or supporters – and anyone purporting to be its supporters or followers – conducted themselves in an orderly fashion at three of their League 2 games this season.

Charges relate to the games against Colchester United on December 26, 2022, Sutton United three days later and again when they played AFC Wimbledon on February 25 this year.

Allegations relate to “words or behaviour that are improper, offensive, abusive, indecent, or insulting with either express or implied reference to race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin.” At least one of those charges came following sexist chants directed at a female physiotherapist.
