Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma had to intervene after Sarfaraz Khan's antics riled up New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell on Day 1 of the third Test match in Mumbai on Friday.

During the 32nd over of the New Zealand innings, Mitchell expressed his frustration at Sarfaraz constantly talking from the silly point position and the umpire decided to call the fielder for a conversation.

Rohit was quick to step in as he made his point to the umpires and the situation was resolved for the moment. Off-spinner Washington Sundar stymied New Zealand's progress with two vital strikes as the visitors reached 92/3 at lunch against India.

Washington (2/26) added two more dismissals to bring his wicket tally to 13 in the series, maintaining consistent pressure on the Kiwi batters after pacer Akash Deep (1/22) gave India the first breakthrough.

India vs New Zealand 3rd Test LIVE Telecast: Having lost a home Test series after 12 years, India head into the third and final Test against New Zealand aiming to avoid an embarrassing 3-0 series whitewash. India are expected to rest pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, in what will be the final Test match before the highly-anticipated five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia. The Test also provides a chance for the out-of-form Indian batting lineup to find their rhythm, with the likes of captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill under the scanner.
Unexpectedly fallen behind 0-2 in a home series, the Indian team has adopted some desperate measures to improve its batters' outing against spot-on New Zealand bowlers, especially the spinners, as talks about a rank-turner for the third Test here has dominated the pre-match talks. The echoes of India's series defeat against New Zealand is unlikely to lose its buzz in the coming weeks. It was for the first time in 12 years that the Indian team lost a Test series at home, losing the first two matches of the 3-Test series against the Kiwis. While India produced a commendable fightback in the first Test, the second match saw them decimated by the touring side. Dinesh Karthik, former India wicket-keeper, refused to spare skipper Rohit Sharma's blushes after the conclusion of the Pune Test.
Former India coach Ravi Shastri has said that Rohit Sharma is too proud a man to take India's series loss against New Zealand lightly. India lost a home Test series for the first time since 2012 against New Zealand, under Rohit's leadership. After the second Test defeat, Rohit Sharma had asked for celebration of 12 years of no defeats rather than digging into the negatives of one series loss. However, Shastri believes that Rohit will not rest on his laurels, but will be hurting.
