Man United boss Erik ten Hag booed by fans as he made passionate Old Trafford speech

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was booed by away supporters as he made a post-match speech on the Old Trafford pitch after Wednesday night's 3-2 win over Newcastle United.

United's players and staff gathered inside the centre circle as Ten Hag was passed the microphone by stadium announcer Alan Keegan. Thousands of supporters had remained in their seats following full-time as it had been confirmed that Ten Hag and his players would conduct an end-of-season lap of appreciation.

After cutting short an interview Bruno Fernandes was conducting with the media, Ten Hag ushered the captain into the centre circle to stand with the rest of his teammates. The United manager was then handed the microphone to address the crowd and thank them for their support this season.

Ten Hag said: "On behalf of players staff I would like to thank you all for your brilliant support this season. As you know it wasn't an easy season but one thing remained constant and that was the backing of you for the team.

"But this season is not over yet, we go to Brighton and then we go to Wembley and I promise you those players will give everything to win that cup and bring it to Old Trafford and we are sure you will be there supporting us.

"We thank you, the best supporters in the world."

While his speech earned cheers and applause from the home faithful, some Newcastle fans who were still present in the away end booed the United manager at various junctures. Nevertheless, the Dutchman continued and earned a roar of support at the end of his address.
