Sunrisers Hyderabad ended an IPL season of 'what ifs' with a power-packed batting effort just like it had started, etching a crushing 110-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders riding on Heinrich Klaasen's 37-ball century in Delhi on Sunday. In the season opener, SRH scored an imposing 286 against Rajasthan Royals and on this day at the half-filled Feroz Shah Kotla, Klaasen (105 not out off 39 balls) and Travis Head (76 off 40 balls), who had saved his best for the last, helped the 'Orange Army' post an unassailable 278 for 3 in 20 overs.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have criticized the Indian Premier League's (IPL) decision to allow 120 minutes of extra time for rain-affected league matches, calling it "ad hoc" and poorly timed. They believe this new rule could have helped them stay in the race for the playoffs if it had been introduced earlier, as per ESPNcricinfo. The IPL Governing Council recently updated the rules to allow an extra two hours for the final nine league games, hoping to ensure full 20-over matches despite expected monsoon rains. Previously, only one hour of extra time was allowed for league games and two hours for playoff matches.
Following the news of the shifting of the venues of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Playoffs, from Hyderabad and Kolkata to New Chandigarh and Ahmedabad, details have emerged that former India spinner Harbhajan Singh played a huge role in the shifting of the fixtures to Punjab. According to sources close to the development, Harbhajan Singh took pains to convince the top brass of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of the stadium's suitability to host the matches in the present weather conditions.
The IPL 2025's new venues for playoffs and final have been announced. Hyderabad and Kolkata were initially supposed to host the last four games before the one week suspension of the tournament. Now, Mullanpur and Ahmedabad will be hosting the playoff stage matches. "After 70 action-packed league-stage matches filled with energy, drama, thrill, and entertainment; the spotlight will shift to the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh as it gears up to host the much-awaited Qualifier 1 - featuring the top-two ranked sides on Thursday, May 29th followed by an engrossing Eliminator clash on Friday, 30th May," the BCCI said in a press stament.
Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have picked Shivam Shukla and Blessing Muzarabani as replacements for their injured players, the IPL said on Monday. Defending champions KKR, who are already out of playoffs reckoning, have signed Shukla as a replacement for Rovman Powell for the remainder of the season. The West Indian all-rounder needs a surgical intervention of his tonsils. Shukla - a leg-spinner - plays for Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket and will join KKR for Rs 30 lakh.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Moeen Ali has shared moments of anxiety for his family when India launched “Operation Sindoor' in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The Indian armed forces launched precision strikes targeting terrorist bases in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan. In the India-Pakistan conflict that followed, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season was halted. Moeen is among the overseas cricketers who decided against returning to India as the IPL Season 18 resumed following a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. He has revealed that his parents were in the PoK region when Operation Sindoor started.
Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar feels Shreyas Iyer didn't get enough credit for leading Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the Indian Premier League (IPL) title. Despite leading KKR to their third IPL title, Shreyas was released by KKR ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, where he was picked up by the Punjab Kings (PBKS). KKR's success was largely attributed to mentor Gautam Gambhir, but Gavaskar feels it's the captain who deserves much of the credit instead of someone sitting in the dugout. Apart from his captaincy, Shreyas scored 351 runs from 14 innings at an average of 39 and with two fifties.
