Gillingham’s former captain Shaun Williams has joined a National South side. Williams, now 37, has agreed to sign for Eastbourne Borough - a team flying high in the second tier of non-league football.
The former Millwall midfielder joined the Gills in the summer of 2022 and was named captain of the team under Neil Harris at the start of last season.
But he only played 17 games that season, struggling to make the matchday squad once Harris had been sacked. His last start came for the Gills under then-caretaker boss Keith Millen, enduring a tough afternoon at Walsall as the team were beaten 4-1.
He made six other appearances after that, all as a substitute, and there was no surprise to see him released by the Gills in the summer having made 51 appearances for the club in the league.
