Wrexham v Boreham Wood: Parkinson wants more control from his side as Dragons face FA Cup heroes

Wrexham AFC boss Phil Parkinson has called on his side to display more control during games as the Dragons face a testing run of fixtures starting with Saturday's FA Trophy clash at home to FA Cup heroes Boreham Wood.

The Dragons boss has previously stated that the priority for his side this season is promotion back into the Football League but given last Saturday's below par showing at Torquay, the Reds boss will be hoping for what would be a confidence-boosting win against the Hertfordshire side.

Wrexham slipped to a disappointing defeat against the Gulls last weekend as an early Asa Hall header was enough to see off Parkinson's men.

The Dragons boss is keen to see his side take more control of games but doesn't want frustration to creep in.

Parkinson said: "We've had a week to look at things that happened in the game (against Torquay) and get ready for the next busy period coming up.

"There's an element of frustration at how the game went but it's important that frustration doesn't come into our play, that's key.

"We're a team who are at our best when we've shown good patience in possession and we'll have to be patient at the weekend because Boreham Wood are a very good team who will sit back and let us have the ball.

"We have to show that element of control. Conditions were difficult at Torquay but we didn't show enough control in our game but we did still have enough moments to get at least a draw."

Parkinson was also under no illusions at how difficult Saturday's game will be against a side who have reached the FA Cup fifth round and are flying high in the National League table.

He said: "They've been brilliant, their FA Cup run has been fantastic and you've got to give them credit for that.
