Wrexham AFC star Liam McAlinden hails 'unbelievable' Dragons fans

Wrexham AFC star Liam McAlinden has praised the club's "amazing" support after two big away victories in the last week.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers man played a significant role in the Dragons' 2-0 win at Chesterfield on Tuesday night after joining the action as a second half substitute.

The 28 year old told North Wales Live that although he has had a "stop-start" season so far he intends to keep producing the goods in order to force his way into Reds boss Phil Parkinson's regular starting XI.

McAlinden was an interested spectator in the first half as Wrexham struggled to gain a foothold in the game but the tide turned in the Dragons' favour after the interval, partly due to the introduction of McAlinden.

He said: "I was pleased with my performance (against Chesterfield) but the bigger picture was that it was an important game and to come away with a 2-0 win was massive.

"We were all watching the first half, myself included and you always feel you can have an impact on the game and I feel that I did that.

"I had a few pats on the back for my performance which was nice but the main thing was to get the three points which we did."

McAlinden has put in some impressive showings this season, playing in a variety of different positions, but has struggled to maintain a regular starting spot.

He said: "It's been a bit stop-start for me but I think the opportunities I have had I've made an impact and done well. The team is in a good run of form at the moment so personally the season has been a bit up and down but I can only do what I can do on the pitch.

"I want to be starting games but it's just a case of when I do get on the pitch if I perform how I know I can then that will help the team and give the manager a decision
