Rangers could cast their net far and wide to find the right man to replace Michael Beale or perhaps they might just look a bit closer to home for their next boss and the man who will become the 19th permanent manager in the club's history.

Could it be Kevin Muscat on the other side of the world, Kjetil Knutsen from the Arctic Circle or maybe Derek McInnes who is just down the M77 - or even David Martindale across the M8.

There are so many things for John Bennett and James Bisgrove and the rest of the Rangers hierarchy to consider as they look to make an appointment who can bring stability and success to Ibrox. We put the question to the Record Sport writers of who should be the next Rangers boss.

Two names are already leading the way in the shape of Kevin Muscat and Derek McInnes - and both men are more than equipped for the task. Muscat’s credentials as the next Ange Postecoglou will excite a support which is crying out for an attacking manager with a clearly defined, contemporary style of play. For his part, McInnes learned from the greatest Rangers manager of all time in Walter Smith. He might be viewed as a more pragmatic choice but, unlike the Michael Beale experiment, he has years of managerial experience under his belt.

One thing the board will now know is that the Ibrox dugout is no place for a rookie and whoever comes in will have to work with a squad of new arrivals who are on lucrative long term deals and won’t be in a hurry to move.
