Six taken to hospital as woman suffers 'major trauma related injuries' in bus crash - live updates

A road in Bolton is closed this afternoon following a crash between a car and a double decker bus.

Emergency services are on the scene on St George's Road, near to Bolton town centre, due to the ongoing collision, involving an Audi and Stagecoach bus.

The road is expected to remain closed for a number of hours as police and fire crews continue to deal with the crash. The nature of any injuries sustained is not yet clear.

The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed crews are on the scene.

The scene has now cleared and the bus has been recovered from the scene.

We are still awaiting further updates from Greater Manchester Police.

A GMP spokesperson has said: "At approximately 1:30pm today (17 October 2023), officers were called to reports of a collision between a bus and a car on St George’s Road in Bolton."

It is unclear currently whether officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are involved in the collision.

We are awaiting further details from Greater Manchester Police.

St George's Road remains closed this evening.

The North West Ambulance Service have said six people have been taken to hospital including a woman who has suffered 'major trauma related injuries'.

It is understood the woman was on board the bus.

There are currently diversions in place as emergency services continue to deal with the incident.

Traffic is being sent along Vernon Street and Chorley Street.
