Live updates: Traffic chaos in Cardiff as police incident shuts major road

A police incident in Cardiff has caused heavy traffic on Wednesday afternoon after a section of the A48 Western Avenue was closed. Police say the incident has now concluded but heavy traffic remains in areas near the Gabalfa interchange.

Our photographers have captured scenes of traffic chaos across the city since the closure, and Google Maps data shows heavy traffic along the A48 Eastern Avenue and Western Avenue, North Road and roads north of the Gabalfa interchange.

A South Wales Police spokesperson said: "Police are currently dealing with an incident at the Gabalfa interchange, Cardiff. A police presence is at the scene responding, and we ask drivers to please avoid the area."

The spokesperson has since confirmed the incident has concluded. Other emergency services have been contacted for comment.
