Rutherglen Glencairn boss reminds squad of standards after Blantyre Vics defeat, but side stays top

Rutherglen Glencairn boss Joe Pryce blasted his side and reminded them they have to hit their own standards after again drawing a blank against Blantyre Vics.

Glens crashed to a 2-0 defeat at the KG Stadium in a West of Scotland First Division clash that Pryce says they never got going in.

He also pointed out that Glens have failed to score against John Gibson’s side in any of their last three meetings.

Pryce said: “It was a disappointing day for us on Saturday, we never really reached the standards that we expect from this team and it was a poor day.

“We never really got going at any time through the match, at no point did we look threatening, and fair play to Blantyre – they were the better team on the day and thoroughly deserved their victory.

“But from our point of view, we look at how we performed and we never showed anything like we had been showing in the previous weeks.

“We had a wee chat with them at the end of the game, just to remind them of the standards that they have set, and that they can’t fall below them and still expect to gain a victory in this division.

“The players know that, we’re back in this week, working hard again at training and get ourselves ready for our Scottish Cup tie on Saturday.

“There was no ranting or raving, just reminding them of the standards that they have set, and the standards that we expect them to produce.

“We’re still top of the league, so there are a lot of positives – after seven games, if you’re top of the division you’re happy.

“I’d be a lot more happy if we were top of the division after 27 games, obviously, but it has been a decent start for us.”
