Graham Arnold rejects Hibs next manager offer as Australia boss reveals reasons why he said no

Australia boss Graham Arnold has revealed he turned down an offer to become the next manager of Hibs.

The Easter Road side are searching for Lee Johnson's successor with Central Coast Mariners boss Nick Montgomery keen and former boss Neil Lennon open to the chance for a return to Leith. But it won't be Arnold who will take the reins as he revealed he was flattered to be asked but has a big job to do with the Socceroos. It's understood Arnold was open in the past to the chance to manage in Scotland but he wants to remain Down Under fresh of the national team's exploits at the World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking to Keep Up, he said: “I have to say it was an honour that Hibs rang me and offered me the job but I’ve got a job to do here. I will say that I love coaching my nation and I feel that I have a great job. For me, it’s all about Mexico and getting ourselves ready for that, and developing and helping the boys here in Australia. I spoke to (Hibs’) owner (but) at this moment, the timing’s not right. I have a job on my hands here and my full focus is on the Socceroos.”

Hibs' search for their next manager will continue with a shortlist being drawn up. St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson is another major contender for the job while former Hibs boss Lennon, Malky Mackay and Derek McInnes have also been touted.

Montgomery also hopes to be among the candidates to replace sacked Lee Johnson after winning the A-League with the Mariners last season.
