Penalty NOT to Rangers sees Philippe Clement seek instant referee answers as he cries double standards

Philippe Clement wants answers over why Rangers conceded a penalty for a handball against Kilmarnock - only to be denied one for the same offence at the death in his side’s win at Rugby Park.

The Light Blues fell behind in Ayrshire after the ball struck John Lundstram’s arm and Danny Armstrong converted from the spot. But James Tavernier’s free kick screamer and a Tom Lawrence goal earned the Scottish Premiership leaders a huge three points. However, Clement was perplexed after Rangers were denied a spot kick of their own late on after the ball appeared to strike ex Ibrox kid Lewis Mayo on the hand and the Belgian said: “I want to know why our penalty was given against us but the late one for us was not.”

But Clement reckons it could be a huge three points at the end of the season and said: “It’s a massive win because we knew this was a hard place to go to. All credit to Kilmarnock who were only beaten once in 14 games and that was against us at Ibrox. We knew the circumstances are difficult to play the football we want to play so it’s a massive one to win this game and to win it with this great mentality that all the players showed.

“Our team has a lot of resilience - even when circumstances don’t go your way. When you get a penalty against in the beginning of the game and Kilmarnock play their favourite game - to sit and wait for our mistakes - and reacting like that is major. It wasn’t just about the two changes at the break, the rest of the team stepped up and showed more than they did in the first half. We don’t need to just point at the two players.
