Ebbsfleet United’s Charlie Seaman unsure if spectacular volley in win over Hampton & Richmond Borough tops his greatest goals list
Charlie Seaman scored a wonder goal for Ebbsfleet last weekend - but wasn’t sure if it’s the best one of his career.
The 26-year-old wing-back chested Jake Hessenthaler’s through-ball and struck a first-time left-foot volley into the bottom corner during the Fleet’s 4-0 win over Hampton on Saturday.
However, Seaman cited a stunning right-foot strike for Hartlepool against Maidenhead in 2023 after cutting inside past two defenders from the touchline as his potential favourite.
“I had one against Maidenhead for Hartlepool,” said Seaman. “That one’s definitely up there, number one or two.
“I need to watch that one back because obviously sometimes it’s better when you see it back or it’s not as good when you see it back.
“It’s definitely one and two for sure. Obviously, it’s a great ball from Hess, it kind of just hit my chest, and as the ball was in the air, I was thinking it sat up perfectly for me to strike.
“To be honest, I’d rather it went row Z than I take a touch, so I thought I might as well just try and hit it.
“I scored one similar to that again for Hartlepool a few seasons back on my left foot so it’s not like I’m not confident to strike on my weaker foot. I thought I’d give it a go and, obviously, caught it well, so I can’t complain!”
Ironically, Ben Chapman won the Fleet’s goal-of-the-season award just days earlier.
His overhead kick in the FA Trophy win over Braintree was the pick of a series of excellent goals, all of which were appreciated by Seaman.
“Mine was a great goal but I don’t want to take anything away from Ben Chapman,” he added.
“There’s goal-of-the-season and there’s having four or five goals-of-the-season in one year!
