Manchester United transfer news RECAP Man Utd vs Atletico Madrid team news as youngster 'signs'

Manchester United will aim to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday as they take on Atletico Madrid in the second-leg of the last 16 tie.

The tie is finely poised after an enthralling opening leg in the Spanish capital in which United somehow managed to escape with a 1-1 draw. Atleti dominated for the vast majority of the match after going ahead through Joao Felix's sixth-minute header and had plenty of chances to not only end the match but the tie itself.

Yet, United managed to hold on and then remarkably drew level after Bruno Fernandes played through Anthony Elanga who scored into the far corner with his first touch.

Ralf Rangnick is hoping to have a fully fit squad for the match at Old Trafford, with Scott McTominay back in training after a calf problem and Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw returning to Carrington following bouts of Covid-19. Shaw remains a doubt, however.

United are set to be without Luke Shaw for their Champions League last 16 second leg against Atletico Madrid tonight.

Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes have both been included in the matchday squad, but left-back Shaw was not spotted arriving at the team hotel earlier today.

McTominay sat out the Spurs win with a calf problem but trained on Monday morning along with Fernandes, Shaw and the rest of the squad. Rangnick suggested there was a 'small question mark' on Shaw's availability and it seems like he will be the only senior player to miss the match.
