Man City 'closing in' on £51m Dani Olmo transfer as 'agreement reached' in deal

Manchester City are reportedly closing in on the signing of Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig a day after the Spain international won the European Championship in Germany.

Reaching the final has given clubs additional time to exercise the £51 million release clause in the player's contract, which now expires on Saturday, July 20. Olmo, 26, won the Euro 2024 Golden Boot, sharing the award with Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, Cody Gakpo, Georges Mikautadze and Ivan Schranz after scoring three goals during the tournament, with all three coming in the knockout stages.

The attacking midfielder is apparently attracting interest from several clubs, including Bayern Munich, because of his performances and the affordable release clause that remains active over the coming days. However, City may be separating themselves from the competition.

Football Insider reports that the club are closing in on signing Olmo in light of new developments on Monday. City are said to be in advanced talks to sign the player, who they have watched closely over recent seasons, with those discussions being about activating the release clause in his contract.

Pep Guardiola has purportedly persuaded his compatriot about moving to the Premier League, with Olmo reportedly making his keenness about a switch to England known to his camp. Agreeing on a payment structure is seemingly the next step in negotiations between the clubs.

City could soon be sending Yan Couto in the opposite direction to Germany as Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement in principle with the player, according to Sky Germany.
