Maidstone United manager George Elokobi on tonight’s Kent Senior Cup final against Tonbridge Angels at Priestfield Stadium
George Elokobi is looking to win his second Kent Senior Cup as he prepares to stand down as Maidstone United manager.
The Stones - record 19-time winners - take on local rivals Tonbridge in the final at Gillingham’s Priestfield Stadium tonight (7.30pm).
It will be Maidstone’s first appearance at the ground since a 1-1 draw with the Gills in the old Division 4 in November 1991.
They’ve won their previous two Kent Senior Cup finals at Priestfield, beating Welling 1-0 in 1989 - a day made even sweeter as the Conference title was also confirmed - and Gillingham by the same scoreline a year later.
Elokobi led Maidstone to a 4-0 win over Ebbsfleet in the 2024 final, played at Bromley, and would love to claim more silverware before leaving the club at the end of the season.
United still have a chance of reaching the National League South play-offs on the final day of the season - they need to win at relegated Bath and hope other results go their way - but the Kent Senior Cup is still an important competition.
“Every game is huge,” said Elokobi, who will be succeeded by assistant manager Craig Fagan at the end of the season.
“We’ve got to make sure we try to win. Tonbridge is the next game and we need to prepare the players right and be ready.
“We are in it, we are in the final, and we have to respect our opposition in how we prepare and the details we give the players.
“It’s important that we look at it as a game that if we do the right things and keep the same standards that we’ve kept throughout the season, then it’s possible to win it.”
Tickets sales closed at 5pm yesterday.
