Departing Maidstone United manager George Elokobi backs replacement Craig Fagan to be a success in the role

George Elokobi is backing new Maidstone United boss Craig Fagan to shine.

Elokobi, who has stepped down after three years in charge, couldn’t be happier to see assistant manager Fagan succeed him at the Gallagher Stadium.

The pair have worked closely together and Elokobi feels his long-time friend and former Colchester team-mate deserves the chance to be a No.1 for the first time.

“I’m absolutely delighted for Craig,” said Elokobi, who led the Stones to a 3-2 win at Bath in his final game on Saturday.

Fagan, like Elokobi, moved into coaching after a successful playing career that saw him reach the Premier League with Hull City and Derby County.

The former forward will bring great qualities to the table as he looks to put his own stamp on things.

“Craig is very capable and I’m sure the club will back him as best as they can,” said Elokobi.

“He’s intelligent, his football IQ is high, and he understands the game. I wish Craig all the very best and I’m going to be his biggest supporter.

“I don’t want anyone to say anything
