A major road between Manchester and Sheffield has been closed due to a lorry crash.
Emergency services are in attendance on the A628 Woodhead Pass this morning (May 25) following a collision in the Peak District.
The road is closed at Crowden, where a lorry has jackknifed across the carriageway.
Full details on the circumstances of the crash are yet to be confirmed, but National Highways has described the collision as 'serious'.
A spokesperson for National Highways said: "The A628 Woodhead Pass is closed in both directions between the A616 (Langsett) and the A6024 (Woodhead) due to a serious collision involving a HGV.
"An extensive recovery process is now taking place. The road will remain closed until recovery is complete.
"A local diversion route is in place. Traffic travelling from further afield is advised to use alternative transpennine routes such as the A57 or M62.
"If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."

Derbyshire Police says a lorry left the road on Woodhead Pass in the early hours of this morning.
A force spokesperson said:
"We received reports of a collision on the A628 Woodhead Pass just before 3.45am on Sunday, May 25.
"The incident involved a lorry which had left the road.
"The driver was not injured.
"The road remains closed to allow for the clean up of diesel."
The road is shut in both directions between Hollingworth and the Langsett roundabout, at the A616.
National Highways says an 'extensive recovery process' is underway.
