LIVE: Liverpool parade crash suspect Paul Doyle remanded in custody after appearing in court - latest updates
A man accused of driving a car into a crowd of fans at Liverpool FC's Premier League title victory parade is set to appear in court again today after appearing in the dock for the first time this morning.
Paul Doyle, 53, appeared before Liverpool Magistrates Court today after being charged with seven offences following the incident on Water Street in Liverpool city centre on Monday (May 26).
Doyle, from Burghill Road, in the West Derby area of the city, had charged with two counts of wounding with intent, two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, and one count of dangerous driving.
In this morning's appearance at magistrates, Doyle, wearing a black suit, was formally remanded into custody before a hearing at Liverpool Crown Court this afternoon.
The charges relate to six alleged victims. They include two children, the Liverpool Echo reports. These are one count of wounding with intent and one of attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) have said the investigation is 'at an early stage' and that charges would be kept 'under review as the investigation progresses.'
In a statement issued on Thursday, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Mersey-Cheshire, Sarah Hammond, said “Prosecutors and police are continuing to work at pace to review a huge volume of evidence.
"This includes multiple pieces of video footage and numerous witness statements.
“It is important to ensure every victim gets the justice they deserve.”
