LIVE updates as Liverpool FC parade crash accused Paul Doyle appears in court

A man was due to appear in court today (Thursday, August 14) after a car was driven into crowds of Liverpool FC fans at the club's victory parade. Paul Doyle, 53, of Burghill Road in West Derby, faces a series of charges.

It comes after a car was driven into crowds of fans during Liverpool's Premier League title celebrations in the city centre.

More than 100 pedestrians - ranging from children aged as young as nine to a 78-year-old - were injured after being struck by a Ford Galaxy on Water Street shortly after 6pm on Monday, May 26, with 50 having required hospital treatment. They have since been discharged from hospital, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Mr Doyle has been charged with two counts of wounding with intent, against 52-year-old Simon Nash and an 11-year-old boy; two counts of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, in which the complainants are named as 66-year-old Christine Seeckts and 77-year-old Susan Passey; two counts of attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm upon 18-year-old Ethan Gillard and a 17-year-old boy; and dangerous driving.

He is scheduled to go on trial from November 24. Mr Doyle's is case is listed before Liverpool Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

He is expected to appear before the Honorary Recorder of Liverpool Judge Andrew Menary KC in courtroom 41 via video link from prison from 10am.
