Chatham Town Women host Cambridge United at home this Sunday and welcome Queens Park Rangers the following week in league fixtures

Chatham Town Women’s boss admits he faces some big decisions on his squad ahead of two big home tests.

The Chats boss has used their opening National League Cup games to assess his options, but admits he cannot keep chopping and changing indefinitely.

Chatham were beaten 2-1 at home by higher-ranked Hashtag United on Sunday, leaving them second in Group I after their opening 3-0 win over London City Lionesses Under-21s.

Boanas made a number of changes for the cup defeat as he looked to give opportunities to players but admitted the experiment backfired in the first half.

“It's still tough at the moment,” he admitted. “I've not settled the squad. I knew it was kind of a free hit in a way, but I still believed we could get a result.

“Again, I changed some players and unfortunately, in the first half, it looked like that was a mistake.

“We just looked completely unbalanced and they took advantage of that. It was two real bad errors on our part for them to go two up, and we just didn't look in the game. We then got the pen, which was justified.”

Lucy Jones converted from the penalty spot just before half-time to give Chatham hope.

“At 2-1, that gave us a little bit to fight for,” said Boanas.

“A few honest and harsh words were spoken at half-time, we made a change, and that seemed to shift it.

“We probably dominated the second half without scoring goals. We had two clear-cut chances, one-on-ones and we hit the bar as well. From a performance perspective, the second half was what we were more about.”

Chatham have one more group game to play against Billericay Town, but their focus now turns back to the league.
