LIVE: Streets underwater after sudden flooding with emergency crews at scene - updates
A road in Trafford has become submerged under water this afternoon (September 22) with emergency services at the scene.
Footpaths and Flixton Road have been closed by police and fire crews today due to sudden flooding which hit the area earlier today.
Road closures are being managed by Greater Manchester Police with United Utilities also in attendance. Nearby Rothiemay Road is also blocked off.
In social media footage, water can be seen rising through what appears to be a pipe in the ground.
Residents have also reported low water pressure in the area this afternoon. Road closures and diversions are currently in place while the incident is being assessed.
This is a live incident. Updates to follow below.
Water levels on Flixton Road are now beginning to go down following the sudden flooding earlier today, caused by a burst water main pipe.
United Utilities remain at the scene currently.
Residents have spoken of the moment their street flooded in Flixton this afternoon.
Juan Fernandez-Arias said: "What was scary was it wasn't going down. The water was going up and up. It just kept coming and coming.
"The police came and blocked the road. This is a good example of the community clearing the drains, but what do we pay our taxes for?"
A spokesperson for Trafford Council said: “The Council is supporting United Utilities in its response to a burst water main on Flixton Road in Davyhulme. Our officers are on site with our partners at Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, alongside United Utilities.
"We are supporting affected residents, businesses, and organisations, and helping to manage road closures while United Utilities works to resolve the issue.”
