LIVE: Huge police cordon in Stockport with bomb squad on scene - updates
A huge police cordon is in place in Stockport this afternoon amid reports of the discovery of an 'exploded grenade'.
The cordon is in place on Sheffield Street, in the Lancashire Hill area. Emergency services are currently on the scene, with pictures showing bomb disposal experts also in attendance.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers were responding to reports of an 'unexploded grenade'. Homes have been evacuated.
The device is not believed to be suspicious and is being removed from the area. The GMP spokesperson said: "Emergency services are currently responding to an ongoing incident on Sheffield Street, Heaton Norris.

"A suspected grenade has been found and a cordon is in place while enquiries are ongoing. The device is not believed to be suspicious. The Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) have been tasked to attend the scene and remove the device.
"Nearby houses and businesses have been evacuated as precaution. People are being asked to avoid Wharf Street Junction and Short Street Junction of Old Road."
A 100m cordon is in place in the area. Fire engines and ambulances are also reported on the scene.
