LIVE: Streets gridlocked as major road closed after 'digger hits Post Office' - latest updates
Drivers are facing heavy traffic in a Wigan suburb as part of a major road is closed off after a 'digger crashed into a Post Office'.
The A58 Platt Street and Warrington Road, in Platt Bridge, is shut between Sherwood Way and the A573 this morning (March 4).
The closure is due to a police incident, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring service. Surrounding roads appear to be at gridlock as drivers avoid the closure.
Multiple images on social media show a digger which has crashed into a Post Office on Walthew Lane this morning.
Google Maps data shows Lily Lane, Warrington Road, Liverpool Road, Bickershaw Lane and Walthew Lane all with congestion surrounding the closure on Lily Lane.
An update from Inrix said: "A58 Lily Lane in both directions blocked, long delays due to police incident from Sherwood Way to A573 Warrington Road. Congestion to all major routes into Platt Bridge."
The incident was first reported on Inrix shortly before 8am. Further details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed.
