'It's a red card' - Furious Copenhagen boss sends Alejandro Garnacho message after incident vs Manchester United

FC Copenhagen head coach Jacob Neestrup admitted he felt Alejandro Garnacho should have been sent-off after scuffing the penalty spot in his side's 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

After falling behind to Harry Maguire's 72nd minute opener, Copenhagen were handed a golden opportunity to take a share of the spoils in the Champions League Group A clash, being awarded a penalty deep into injury time. Scott McTominay's high boot was deemed to have connected with Mohamed Elyounoussi at the back post.

Jordan Larsson stepped up to take the resulting penalty and saw his effort saved by United goalkeeper Andre Onana, sparking wild scenes, both on the pitch and in the stands. His save helped United clinch their first Champions League win of the campaign.

But among all the drama, video replays showed Reds winger Garnacho scuffing up the penalty spot in the time between the spot-kick being awarded and it being taken. It left some of Copenhagen's supporters furious, suggesting the Argentine's actions led to Larsson being denied.

Neestrup was asked about the incident following the full-time whistle and he admitted that it was the first he had heard about it, saying: "I have neither seen it nor heard about it."

However, once he had seen the footage back, the Copenhagen boss, speaking in a separate interview, said Garnacho ought to have been dismissed. He also called for referees and UEFA to stamp out such behaviour.
