Hamilton Accies defender set to go out on loan

Hamilton Accies defender Fergus Owens is set to go out on a short-term loan.

Ahead of the loan window for lower league sides closing at the end of the month, a few teams are understood to be chasing his services, including clubs in the same league as Accies and below.

And an announcement is expected from the South Lanarkshire outfit shortly on where Owens' next destination will be.

Owens became a regular in the middle of last season, making 24 appearances during their SPFL Trust Trophy success and ill-fated Championship campaign.

But he has found himself out of the side amid a raft of fresh faces arriving at New Douglas Park over the summer.

He has made just one appearance this term, which came in July in the Viaplay League Cup win over Brechin City where he was a second half substitute.

But Accies are keen to get the highly-rated 20-year-old first team action, with a view to him returning in the new year with games under his belt.

Meanwhile, Accies remain in the market for new players to boost their League One title bid.

Boss John Rankin ran the rule over a trialist last week and it is understood Accies are in talks with the players and his representatives over securing a deal before the weekend trip to Queen of the South.
