Hamilton Accies boss will take Falkirk draw after 'caught in headlights' spell during stalemate

Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin says he'll take the draw and move on after his side survived a nervy start in their top of the table stalemate with Falkirk.

Rankin watched his side weather an early storm as Falkirk made a bright start in difficult conditions, but the hosts failed to capitalise with Tom Lang and Liam Henderson both sending headers narrowly wide of the target.

It was a game of few chances in a contest that failed to live up to its billing, but it keeps both sides unbeaten after nine games in League One and eight points clear of third-place Montrose.

And after back-to-back clean sheets in the division, Rankin said: "In the first 20 minutes Falkirk were by far the better team. We looked nervous, we looked like we got caught in the headlights but I've got to give my players credit because they came through that really well.

"We've kept a clean sheet against the league's top scorers, so that is the pleasing thing.

"It is a game at the top of the table and there's a lot at stake for both sides, but we just need to keep going.

"If you ask me if I'm happy with a point, I'd say no because I wanted to come and win the game.

"But I am pleased to keep the run going that we are on, the momentum is still there, and I'm also pleased with the character.

"The back four and the goalkeeper were really good.

"I think Scott Martin was immense, he broke things up and kept things going, but we just lacked that wee bit of quality that has been there so far."

Accies hit five goals in their last outing against Annan and Rankin was disappointed to see a lack of creativity this weekend, albeit against a stronger side.
