CM Punk wins the AEW World Championship

Last night’s Double Or Nothing saw one of the biggest main events in the history of AEW as the AEW World Champion, Hangman Adam Page defended against number one contender CM Punk.

This match saw Punk’s first opportunity at AEW gold since joining the company whereas Adam Page was in the form of his life, reigning for 195 days and defeating the likes of Kenny Omega, Adam Cole, Bryan Danielson, Lance Archer and he looked to add Punk to the list of impressive names he has overcome to keep his hands on AEW’s most prized possession.

Going in to this bout the champion Page had a different demeanour to that of his other title defences. Both men would also hit each other’s finishers, with Punk hitting the Buckshot Lariat and Page hitting the GTS.

The closing moments saw glimpses of a potential heel turn for Page, as a miscommunication saw the referee get knocked to the ground. Page gripped the title as it seemed he had run out of options to retain.

However, Page would decide to not use the belt and opt to hit a Buckshot instead, this would prove to be costly as Punk would counter and hit the GTS securing the victory and being crowned
