Celtic transfer news latest as Sydney van Hooijdonk enters make or break arena while Nicolas Kuhn hits the weights

Sydney van Hooijdonk faces a potentially decisive weekend at Bologna amid transfer noise again linking him with Celtic.

The Dutchman - son of Parkhead legend Pierre - was prominently linked with making a switch to join Brendan Rodgers' side in the summer. Nothing happened then but he is now firmly behind Joshua Zirkzee in the pecking order. It was claimed in Italy that a move out of Bologna could be on the hards but with the number one man in attack unavailable against Cagliari this weekend, boss Thiago Motta is likely to turn to the Dutchman.

He has admitted it's a major chance for the 23-year-old to step out of the shadows. Motta said at his press conference: "We'll see if he starts tomorrow, and there's no message for him. He must continue to work as he has done in recent months, helping the team. We have to go to Cagliari to do our best.

"We have to take advantage of his positive characteristics, even if they are very different from those of Zirkzee. If he plays tomorrow, all together we will make sure to put him in a position to put in a great performance."

Nicolas Kuhn looks likely to be the first winter signing. Rapid Vienna and Celtic continue to negotiate a fee ahead of a switch to Glasgow, as he was sat out of their friendly win over Wiener Sports Club. But the winger was still hard at work, as Heute revealed "Transfer target Nicolas Kühn completed an individual session in the weight room."

A player rumoured to be on his way to Bologna is Rocco Vata. The Celtic youth prospect is out of contract in the summer and an Italian switch is an option for him. That was put to the side on Saturday as he started in a 3-1 B team win against Edinburgh University.
