ITV The Masked Singer fans think Maypole is one of two very famous faces

ITV The Masked Singer is spinning fans into a frenzy as panellist throw in their guesses on who the Maypole is.

A trail of breadcrumbs has slowly been left out for the panellists and viewers, with many saying it could either be Rita Ora or Cheryl under the mask. Unfortunately, it's hard to lean too hard into one or the other as there is substantial evidence for both celebs.

The Maypole previously teased their identity by saying they were hiding "in plain sight". While it might be obvious that the Maypole is Rita Ora, due to them being a noticeably good singer compared to some other contestants and the fact she has been missing from every show the Maypole has featured in, there have been clues against this.

One of the larger clue is the "One Direction" reference dropped by the Maypole in tonight's episode, which led Olly Murs to linking the contestant to X Factor, a show which was hosted by Cheryl while he was also in it. Another clue that was dropped was in reference to a 'bear', while it's not initially clear what this could be, it's important to note that Cheryl's son is called Bear.

Fans on social media also seem divided on who the Maypole could be. One wrote on X, formerly Twitter: "Absolutely convinced Maypole is Rita Ora but..."

While another said: "I think that Maypole is Cheryl because of the clues about One Direction and Bear, but I’m not sure about the (Love) Island clue." The Love Island clue eluded to in tonight's episode could be a massive throw in Rita Ora's direction as she appeared on the show last year.

A third said: "The clues hint towards Cheryl but that’s 100% NOT her voice. It could be Rita ora’s and Rita is awol every time maypole is on."
