Celtic transfer bulletin as Sydney van Hooijdonk lands coy Bologna boss verdict amid Gustaf Lagerbielke exit twist

Sydney van Hooijdonk appears to have emerged as a top target for Celtic before the end of the window - with Bologna boss Thiago Motta leaving the door open for an exit.

Reports in Italy have suggested that the Scottish Premiership leaders have made their interest known to the Serie A side earlier this month - but Bologna were said to be holding on to the Dutchman until a replacement was found. Following the arrival of striker Santiago Castro from Velez, the club look to have green lit a move with Corriere dello Sport stating that the player's agent is working to "find a suitable arrangement for everyone" with the 23-year-old desperate to increase his game time.

The rumour mill was sent into overdrive after TNT Sports claimed that Van Hooijdonk's absence from the matchday squad was to allow the striker to take steps towards a move to Celtic. However, following the full-time whistle boss Motta clarified that the frontman was missing due to suffering from the flu.

But Motta refused to rule out a potential exit amid speculation over a switch that would see him follow in the footsteps of dad Pierre at Celtic Park. He said: "We'll see if in the end he stays here or not, the important thing is that he always trains to the maximum."

In terms of outgoings, Gustaf Lagerbielke still has hopes of making a move to Italy amid links with Lecce and Genoa. Corriere dello Sport state Genoa have refused to "give up" on the 23-year-old.

Sports director Pantaleo Corvino is said to be a huge admirer of the Swedish international - but the offer on the table leaves Celtic to cover some of the defender's salary. While the initial loan offer was rejected, the Serie A side ‘hope’ the Hoops will perform a u-turn before February 1.
