Bolton Wanderers retained list anticipated as seven senior players learn of contract decisions

Bolton Wanderers are anticipated to release their retained list in due course after having discussions with the club's out of contract players over if they will be offered new deals or not.

Wanderers' season in League One came to a conclusion over the weekend with a 4-2 win at the University of Bolton Stadium as they ended the campaign on a positive note.

Ian Evatt's side finished ninth in the third tier of English football with a total of 73 points, a fine achievement for a newly promoted side and with a tally which would have put them in the mix for the play-offs in many seasons gone by.

Bolton finished 10 points from the top six as the standard at the top of League One was cranked up a level this season and one which looks likely to continue next season.

Barnsley, Derby County and Peterborough United have been relegated from the Championship, while Wanderers, Ipswich Town, Portsmouth, Oxford United and Plymouth Argyle all missed out on the play-offs.

Only one of MK Dons, Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland and Plymouth Argyle will join Wigan Athletic and Rotherham United in the Championship next season, with another difficult League One poised to commence at the end of July.

Wanderers have seven senior players out of contract this summer and decisions have been made as to whether they will be offered fresh deals or not.

The players were informed yesterday of what the club's plans are for them and it means the retained list is now anticipated to be released as some stage soon, now that those decisions have been passed on.
