Bolton Wanderers rank highly in League One away attendances ahead of Portsmouth & Wigan Athletic

Bolton Wanderers finished ninth in the recently concluded regular League One season.

Bolton's form in the second half of the campaign saw them shoot up the League One table and make the top 10. Wanderers sat 18th in the third tier of English football following a mid-January loss to Wycombe Wanderers.

But after a 2-0 win at home versus Ipswich Town on January 15, Wanderers lost just three more games for the rest of the campaign as they moved up into the top half of the table, ending the season eight unbeaten with four straight wins and a tally of 73 points. It is encouraging form which the Whites will be hoping to carry into next season and target a promotion charge in earnest.

On the final day of the season, Wanderers leapfrogged Portsmouth in the League One table owing to 4-2 victory over Fleetwood Town and Pompey suffering defeat at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday. The final away day of the season for Wanderers saw the Whites beat Cheltenham Town 2-1.

Wanderers' away form in the regular season saw them finish ninth in the standings for results away from the University of Bolton Stadium. And the Whites did well in terms of their average followings on the road too with fans following Ian Evatt's side up and down the country in big numbers.

Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland top the standings with average away attendances of 2,464 and 2,343 respectively. Ispwich Town are third with a figure of 1,799.

But Wanderers sit fourth in the table with an average away day attendance of 1,654 fans at games on the road. It places Ian Evatt's side ahead of Portsmouth (1,393) and champions Wigan Athletic (1,372).
