The Met Office has issued a new thunderstorm warning ahead of heavy downpours this weekend. Two yellow storm warnings have been issued for Friday and Saturday, with forecasters predicting 'disruption' caused by heavy showers.

The warning on Friday, which mainly covers parts of the Midlands, Wales and the South West, will come into force at lunchtime and last until 8pm.

The new warning issued for Saturday - which will come into force at 1am and last until 11.59pm - just misses our region, but covers other parts of the North West including parts of Cheshire and Merseyside. "Whilst some places will remain dry, thunderstorms and heavy showers could cause some disruption on Saturday in a few places", the Met Office said.
