Live updates as weather warning means more heavy rain for parts of Wales

Thunderstorms brought the fine weather to an end on Sunday with more heavy rain forecast for parts of Wales on Monday (May 13). A temperature of 25.3 °C was recorded in Usk, Monmouthshire, yesterday but it looks set to be milder this week.

Spells of heavy rain are expected to hit parts of south Wales on Monday with a yellow warning for rain starting at 8am and running until midnight. The areas of Wales covered by the warning are Blaenau Gwent; Bridgend; Caerphilly; Cardiff; Carmarthenshire; Merthyr Tydfil; Monmouthshire; Neath Port Talbot; Newport; Powys; Rhondda Cynon Taf; Swansea; Torfaen; Vale of Glamorgan.

It states: "A band of rain will move east across the area through Monday to bring a spell of heavy and persistent rain. 20-30 mm of rain is expected to fall widely with as much as 40-50 mm over some hills."

The Met Office forecast for Wales says: "Turning unsettled from the west with heavy and persistent rain sweeping across much of the country by the afternoon, accompanied by blustery winds and feeling much cooler than of late. Maximum temperature 17 °C. Staying wet this evening as outbreaks of rain continue overnight, this often heavy and persistent. Rain confined to the far north by dawn. Brisk winds in heavy downpours. Mild. Minimum temperature 10 °C."

Honor Criswick, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said these storms are likely to mean there is a week of milder weather ahead.

She said: "It will still be fairly warm, with temperatures in the high teens and early 20s, but cooler than it has been over the past few days."

The temperature records for the year were broken three times over the past week, with Thursday, Saturday and then Sunday seeing increasingly hot temperatures across the country.
