Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has been named the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year. Mainoo, 18, was presented with the award during the interval of United's penultimate Premier League fixture with Chelsea.
The Stockport-born England youth international made his United debut against Charlton in the League Cup in January but he has missed the run-in through injury. ALSO READ: The inside story of United's academy this season Mainoo will become the latest name to be chiselled onto the Murphy plaque, which is on display in the Jimmy Murphy building at United's Carrington training complex.
There are high hopes for Mainoo and he's considered as the shining light of his age group. He was instrumental in the club's success in the FA Youth Cup last year and those who know him best paint a picture of a grounded, likeable young man.
Daniel Gore received the Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year for his performances for the Under-21s. Gore, also 18, was in the same midfield as Mainoo last season when United won their first Youth Cup in 11 years.
