Billy Gilmour went from boy wonder to forgotten man in 18 months. Suddenly though, it’s all things Brighton beautiful for the midfielder, who was yesterday named in Steve Clarke ’s squad for the upcoming Euro qualifiers against Norway and Georgia after a remarkable resurgence to his career with Roberto De Zerbi’s classy English south-coast outfit.
Still only 21, the former Rangers and Chelsea midfielder has been through the mill since bursting on to the international stage with a stunning display against England at Wembley in the summer of 2021.
That should have heralded the start of something but Gilmour contracted Covid immediately after that match, missed Scotland’ s final game in the tournament and little has gone right since.
Unable to break into Chelsea’s first team, a loan spell at Norwich ended in relegation before signing for Brighton the week before his manager Graham Potter was lured to Stamford Bridge.
