'You need to get used to that' - Ex-Manchester United and Ajax star sends Andre Onana warning
Former Manchester United star Jaap Stam has warned supporters they will have to "get used to" Andre Onana's passing style of play, which can be nerve-shredding but is vital for the club to progress.
United did well in their first season under Erik ten Hag but were clearly being held back by David de Gea's struggles with the ball at his feet. The Spaniard looked as though he would be staying at the club initially but several high-profile and costly mistakes in the run-in saw a change of heart within the club.
Instead, De Gea left after 12 years at Old Trafford. United moved swiftly to replace the goalkeeper with Onana, who had just enjoyed a great season at Inter. Ten Hag is familiar with the Cameroonian after he played for him at Ajax.
Onana's excellent distribution and confidence in possession make him the perfect goalkeeper to take United to the next level. However, Stam has warned supporters that they will have to get used to the nervy sight of seeing their man between the sticks taking his time on the ball and inviting pressure.

"Andre is very comfortable on the ball," Stam, who was full of praise for Onana, told United's official website. "You know, I worked with Andre Onana at Ajax, when I was taking the Under-23s, and when he was there, and came through at Ajax.
"So he played a lot of games with myself in the Under-23s in the second league in Holland. And he's a player who is, at first, he's a very good person. He's very calm and very down to earth. He likes to joke as well. So you can laugh with him
